Easy Ragi Breakfast Smoothie

Easy Ragi Breakfast Smoothie

Healthy Ragi Smoothie Recipe

Here’s my recipe for a wholesome ragi smoothie that combines great taste with health benefits. Ragi or nachni is a wonder whole grain that’s highly nutritious, free from gluten, and rich in iron and calcium. Today’s smoothie is loaded with nutritients and fibre as well that will keep you feeling full for longer. It has natural healthy fats, no added sugar, and is great for weight management or weight loss.

To make the ragi smoothie, we’re going to use sprouted ragi flour because it has a higher Vitamin C content that will help the iron from the ragi get more easily absorbed into the blood. Let me show you how to make it.

Another healthy ragi dish you could check out is my delicious ragi soup recipe or even my tasty dessert recipe for Goan ragi pudding.

1 cup drinking water

¼ tsp ground cardamom / a small cinnamon stick

Procedure

  1. Make a slurry with the ragi flour and 1/4 cup of water.
  2. Heat the milk and ½ cup of drinking water on a medium flame. Add the ground cardamom or cinnamon stick and then mix in the slurry.
  3. Stir continuously as the mixture starts thickening. Once it starts boiling, reduce the heat to low, and continue stirring it taking care to see it doesn’t get burnt. Let it simmer for around 2 minutes to give the ragi time to get cooked.
  4. Turn off the heat and let the ragi mixture cool to room temperature.
  5. If you want to enjoy the smoothie chilled, then either throw in some ice cubes while blending it, or else chill the thickened ragi mixture, the remaining drinking water, and the bananas.
  6. Transfer the thickened ragi mixture to a blender. Slip the skins off the soaked almonds. Then chop them and add them to the blender.
  7. Peel and slice the bananas and add these too to the blender along with the honey and the salt.
  8. Whip the mixture in the blender till the smoothie is frothy and creamy.
  9. Add the remaining ½ cup of drinking water and whip the smoothie again.
  10. Pour the chilled smoothie into glasses and add a topping of chopped nuts.

Enjoy!
