Goan Godd Fov – Sweet Poha Recipe

Sweet Pohe With Jaggery

This is a quick no cook Goan poha breakfast snack, a super-quick sweet snack made from pohe. It’s a different kind of quick and tasty dessert. Also called ‘god fov’ or ‘godache fov’ in Konkani, this is a popular go to dish when people in Goa want to make something sweet or a quick Goan dessert for family or for guests, with hardly any cooking or without any cooking involved.

Another almost instant Goan sweet breakfast snack is sweet black-eyed beans. You must try it.

Ingredients

1 cup thick pohe (100g)
½ tsp ghee or butter
A few almonds and cashew nuts
1 tbsp raisins
⅓ cup (5 ½ tbsp) grated jaggery (70g)
½ cup grated fresh coconut (50g)
¼ tsp ground cardamom
¼ tsp salt

 

Sweet Pohe With Jaggery

Procedure

1. Dry roast the poha for 2-3 minutes till it changes colour slightly. Let it cool. (Optional step)
2. Fry the almonds and cashew nuts in ½ tsp ghee for 2 minutes. Saute everything for 1 minute. (Optional step)
3. Wash the pohe well 2 – 3 times with plenty of water. Drain it and set aside for 5 minutes.
4. In a bowl, mix the jaggery and coconut, till the jaggery dissolves and there are no lumps left.
Add in the ground cardamom, salt, toasted nuts, and the raisins, and finally the pohe. Mix everything well. Let it sit for around 5 minutes to let the pohe soak in the liquid released by the jaggery and coconut. And then dig in, and enjoy the dish.
