The flavour comes from the whole spices, the coconut milk, and of course the prawns. Read on for step-by-step instructions on how to make prawn pulao. The Goan prawn pulao is also a classic one-pot meal. A homemade prawn pulao is the perfect choice for those busy days when you don\u2019t have much time for slaving away in the kitchen.<\/p>\n<p>This popular and easy prawn pulao recipe is quick-to-make as well. You could cook it on the stove top in a thick-walled pot or in a pressure pan or pressure cooker. Also, in case you want to take the spiciness level up a notch or two, you could add a teaspoon of chilli powder to the spice mix. Prawn lovers will also love my <a href=\"https:\/\/veenapatwardhan.com\/pat-a-cake\/2022\/04\/30\/deliciousprawnandladysfingercurry\/\">lady\u2019s finger and prawn curry<\/a>, another iconic Goan recipe.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/otNzrga0OX0\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Ingredients<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>1 \u00bd cup basmati rice<\/p>\n<p>2 cups water<\/p>\n<p>1 cup coconut milk (from \u00be cup grated coconut)<\/p>\n<p>20 prawns<\/p>\n<p>8 cloves<\/p>\n<p>12 pepper corns<\/p>\n<p>2 cinnamon sticks around 1 \u00bd\u201c each<\/p>\n<p>5 green cardamom pods<\/p>\n<p>2 bay leaves<\/p>\n<p>2 tsp crushed garlic<\/p>\n<p>2 tsp crushed ginger<\/p>\n<p>\u00bd tsp turmeric powder<\/p>\n<p>4 green chillies finely chopped<\/p>\n<p>1 medium-size onion chopped<\/p>\n<p>1 medium-size tomato chopped<\/p>\n<p>1 stock cube (vegetable or chicken)<\/p>\n<p>Juice of half sour lime<\/p>\n<p>\u00bd cup peas<\/p>\n<p>Salt to taste<\/p>\n<p>3 tbsp oil, 2 tbsp ghee<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>For marinating the prawns<\/em>:<\/p>\n<p>Half the garlic and ginger<\/p>\n<p>\u00bd tsp salt<\/p>\n<p>A pinch of turmeric powder<\/p>\n<p>A few drops sour lime juice<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-712\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/veenapatwardhan.com\/pat-a-cake\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/Goan-Prawn-Pulao.jpg?resize=500%2C400&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Goan Prawn Pulao\" width=\"500\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/veenapatwardhan.com\/pat-a-cake\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/Goan-Prawn-Pulao.jpg?w=500&amp;ssl=1 500w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/veenapatwardhan.com\/pat-a-cake\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/Goan-Prawn-Pulao.jpg?resize=300%2C240&amp;ssl=1 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Procedure<\/strong><\/h3>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>Wash the rice well and soak in water for around 20 minutes.<\/li>\n<li>Clean, devein, and wash the prawns. Marinate them for around 15 \u2013 20 minutes.<\/li>\n<li>Heat the oil and ghee in a pressure pan (or pot).<\/li>\n<li>Add the whole spices one by one, and saut\u00e9 them for 1 &#8211; 2 minutes.<\/li>\n<li>Add the chopped green chillies and after saut\u00e9ing these, add the onions and fry these till they get lightly browned.<\/li>\n<li>Add in the tomatoes and saut\u00e9 them till they soften.<\/li>\n<li>Add the remaining garlic, ginger, and the turmeric powder. Stir everything well. If you want a spicier pulao, you could also throw in 1 tsp of chilli powder.<\/li>\n<li>Add the prawns and fry these for around 2 minutes with continuous stirring.<\/li>\n<li>Add the strained rice, the green peas, \u00bd tsp salt, the stock cube, and the sour lime juice.<\/li>\n<li>Stir everything for around 2 minutes, and then add in the coconut milk and the water. Stir again.<\/li>\n<li>Taste the liquid and add salt as needed.<\/li>\n<li>If using a pressure pan, fix the lid on, and once the steam starts getting released from the steam vent, put on the vent weight and let the pan come to full pressure.
